U.S. History Course Outline
Major Units of Instruction: Colonial Heritage, War for Independence, U.S. Constitution, Challenges of the New Nation, The Nation Expands, Civil War and Reconstruction, Becoming a Modern Nation and U.S. Geography.
Text Book: United States History: Independence to 1914 from Holt, Rhinehart and Winston.
Required Materials: Sharpened pencils, blue or black ink pen,
90% - Higher = A
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79% = C
60% - 69% = D
50% - 59% = F
Daily Assignments: Students will be required to maintain a packet of their daily work. This packet will be collected around the time of each major test. Students are responsible for filling in an assignment sheet with the day’s assignment and keeping all papers in order. Packets will make up a large portion of the students grade. Tests, essays, and projects will also weigh heavily on the students’ grades. Students are also required to write the daily content objective in their student planners and participate fully in all classroom activities.
Make-up Assignments: In the case of an excused absence, a student will have 2 days to turn in any missed assignments of every one day of absence.
Late Work Policy: Late work will be accepted up to two weeks prior to the end of each quarter. A completed assignment turned in late will earn the student partial credit.
Extra Credit Policy: Extra credit points, if available, are for all students. Extra credit is used in addition to daily required work, not in place of it. Extra credit will not be allowed to raise a student’s grade if he/she is receiving a low grade for missing assignments.
Rules:
1. Be respectful of not only the teacher, but also fellow students.
2. Follow the instructions of the teacher immediately.
3. Be on task upon entering class and ready to learn. (any student not in their seat upon the bell ringing WILL be considered tardy)
4. Treat all school property (desks, books, laptop computers etc.) with the utmost of care.
5. No food/drink/ or gum will be permitted unless it is otherwise specified.
6. Cell Phones are OFF and AWAY. If a student is texting/playing/calling on a phone during class the phone will be CONFISCATED by the teacher and given only to the parents.
7. Plagiarism and cheating of any kind will NOT be tolerated and will result in an automatic 0 for anyone engaging in these activities on any assignment/test.
Consequences:
Infractions of the rules stated will result in this manner:
1. Verbal warning.
2. Parent Contact/ Step System will be used (Refer to district code of conduct to learn about this process).
3. Major Incidents/ infractions of rules will result in immediate removal of the student from the classroom.
